So today happens to be “World food day” and on that spirit I celebrated it by baking this delicious whole wheat bread.
I used a ratio of 50/50 with both whole wheat flour and all purpose flour as this gives the loaves good structure and a nutty chewy flavour.
So in that spirit let us all share our food pictures on social media with the hashtag #hungerfree
1/4 cup warm warm water
2 teaspoons dry yeast
1 cup milk
1/4 cup honey
21/2 cups all purpose flour
21/2 cup whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons cooking oil
1 tablespoon salt
As always I started of by activating my yeast.
This I did my warming up my 1/4 cup water,I went ahead and mixed in honey and finally the yeast.
Let this mixtures rest up for close to 8 minutes allowing the yeast to feed on the sugars.
After 8 minutes our yeast would have activated.
Next into my activated yeast I did add my milk,oil and salt. Mix this up well.
Proceed to add your whole purpose flour then your whole wheat flour.mix all of this up and let this mixture sit for 20 minutes.
Letting our dough sit allows for the flour to absorb all the liquid.after 20 minutes knead our dough for close to 8 minutes on a floured surface until you achieve a smooth and consistent dough.
Place this in a well oiled bowl and cover with a wet towel(cling foil will also do you good).
Let this sit in a warm place for close to 11/2 hours,this is to get the dough to raise.
I went ahead and poured this on a floured surface.
Puch this down and knead for an extra 4 minutes.
Divide our dough into two and place them into baking greased baking tins.you can have slits on top of your dough for decoration.
At this stage let your dough sit for an extra 40 minutes go allow them to raise.
Place this i in a preheated oven at 190℃ for 30 to 35 minutes.
If your bread browns before tine,cover it up with an aluminium foil,happens to me all the time.
And through the magic of time our loaves are done.
Take them off the tins immediately and let them cool on a rack before slicing up.
